The Clinch Coalition Welcomes New Program Director

January 18th, 2021

Reaching out to the community is a priority for Jala Tyler, the new Program Director for The Clinch Coalition. “I want to connect with people, to help them see the importance of what we are fighting for,” she explains.

Tyler is a native of York, Pennsylvania and a graduate of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and a concentration in environmental science.

To begin her community outreach, after just two weeks on the job, Tyler created The Clinch Coalition’s winter edition newsletter which will become a regular feature. The first issue of the monthly The High Knob Herald can be found on the group’s website at www.clinchcoalition.net.

As Program Director, Tyler is taking the lead to organize and deliver educational, recreational and conservation activities. Beginning her work as a new employee during the Covid-19 global pandemic is requiring flexibility on her part and The Clinch Coalition Board members as they adjust to social restrictions and how to best carry on the work of the environmental organization.

“We can provide experiences for people in our community during these trying times,” Tyler says, “ranging from hikes and scavenger hunts to virtual involvement.”

Tyler will also work with the Forest Watch program to ensure protection and best management of the forest, wildlife, and watersheds in the Clinch Ranger District of the Jefferson National Forest and other forest in our surrounding communities.

“The Clinch Coalition is delighted to bring Jala on board,” says President Sharon Fisher. “Her youth and enthusiasm together with the dedication and conservation experience of our Board of Directors will help further the engagement of our communities here in Southwest Virginia in the preservation and enjoyment of our unique natural environment.”
